[外電] Sources: Mavs bid for C Kyrylo Fesenko

The Mavericks still have one roster spot open and are exploring the
feasibility of filling it with the best free-agent big man still available:
Kyrylo Fesenko.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com on Saturday that the Mavericks,
even after signing local high school product Sean Williams as a third center
earlier this week, have extended a one-year offer to Fesenko.

Three other teams are known to be chasing the Ukranian: Toronto, Golden State
and Miami.

Sources say that the Raptors, with a full 15 players on their roster, are
exploring avenues to create an open spot for Fesenko, who turned 25 on
Saturday.

Fesenko is expected to take the weekend to choose his destination. It's
believed that more money and minutes would be available with either the
Raptors or the Warriors, but the lure of signing with a title contender like
the Heat or the Mavericks is also strong.

The 7-foot-1, 280-pounder has played sparingly in four seasons with the Jazz
after being taken in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft.

The Mavericks are apparently intent on filling the void created by Tyson
Chandler's free-agent departure with depth and variety. In addition to the
prospect of signing Fesenko, they've already added a lanky shot-blocking
specialist in Williams, who starred at Mansfield High and for the Mavericks'
D-League affiliate in Frisco last season.

If Fesenko chooses to sign elsewhere, Dallas is expected to keep pursuing
free-agent targets on short-term deals, based on the premise that having a
full complement of 15 players is the best way for the league's second-oldest
team (behind only Atlanta) to cope with the rigors of a 66-game schedule in
the space of four months.
