While the Mavericks were glad to have a Roddy Beaubois sighting Friday night,
they were at a loss to explain why the San Antonio centers treated the
Mavericks like they were invisible on the defensive end.

Starter Tiago Splitter made five of six shots. Backup DeJuan Blair was
10-of-13 from the field. Neither one of them had to make a shot outside the
paint.

“He (Blair) was laying the ball in the basket, and so, we had breakdowns,”
 coach Rick Carlisle said. “He’s 10-of-13 and Splitter was 5-of-6,k and it’
s hard to overcome layup after layup and that’s what happened. We weren’t
good enough.”

Elton Brand got the start over Chris Kaman and Brand did have 13 rebounds.
But the defense was non-existent by either one of them. The Spurs shot 50
percent through three quarters, when they led by 20.

The Mavericks had to score 11 straight points in 50 seconds to make the score
respectable in the final minute.

Meanwhile, Beaubois had his best statistical game of the season with 19
points in 16 minutes, but all it served to do was tease everybody.

“He was terrific,” Carlisle said. “It’s not about the points, but about
the energy, enthusiasm and disposition. It’s up to him. If he plays like
this, he has a chance to secure the backup (point guard) position and will
challenge for the starting position.

“I think when he was deactivated for the Orlando game, that got his
attention. It shouldn’t have to be like this. I’m a long-time supporter of
his, and when he does things like he did tonight, he tells on himself. He
basically says, ‘Hey, this is what I can do.’

“And when he doesn’t give it to us all the time, you know, that’s where
the problem is. We’ve got 39 games left. I’m very open-minded about
everything, believe me, and we need to see him doing this every time he steps
on the floor. And he’s certainly capable.”

All that is true. Consistency remains the problem.

“I haven’t been myself lately,” Beaubois said. “I have to take it
personally. I did some good things, but I have to stay focused and everyday
do the same thing. Obviously, I have to do a better job to be more consistent.
”

While he had his best statistical game of the season, he wasn’t close to the
top point guard on the floor. That was Tony Parker, who had 23 points and 10
assists despite suffering two cuts near his left eye early in the first
quarter. One of the cuts required three stitches and he returned in the
second quarter.



老實說小牛問題一直是禁區防守呀....

以前小牛會堆肉柱來守禁區

這季小牛用進攻不錯但防守很差的Kaman打中鋒

禁區就一直被肆虐

後來球隊才肯重用Brand

小牛籃板最多的Marion

平均8.1個

再來是上場21分鐘的Brand 6.6個

Kaman上場24分鐘才6.2個...

前半季Dirk不在時後場TO很多

但Dirk回來後這問題改善滿多的

現在籃板跟禁區防守還是沒有大改進

Bernard James也許能改善問題

但他進攻幾乎是0

所以目前看來Brand還是最合格的禁區球員
