If you believe that the Mavericks are for real this season — or at least
have a chance to be legitimate — you probably need to see more than you’ve
seen so far.


They are 1-4 against teams that currently would qualify for the playoffs. And
the win came in the opener against Atlanta, which since has found a better
stride than the Hawks showed three weeks back.


Against Houston, Miami, Minnesota and Oklahoma City — teams with a combined
28-14 record as of Tuesday — they are 0-4, all on the road. The Mavericks
were pseudo-competitive in a couple of those games.



So Houston’s visit to American Airlines Center on Wednesday night for a
nationally televised 8:30 p.m. game represents the Mavericks’ next chance to
grab a seat at the big-boy table.



Given the fact that you can only beat the teams that come up on the schedule,
the Mavericks have done a decent job of taking care of business. But they
haven’t piled up a lot of what could be termed “quality” wins.



“This is a higher profile game because of who the opponent is,” coach Rick
Carlisle said. “They got two superstar players, and they’re considered to
be a top-five team in the league. We didn’t play very well down there. A lot
of that had to do with how good they are. So we got to do a lot of things
better.”


The Mavericks’ 7-4 record may have a bit of fool’s gold in it. They are 5-1
against the weaker Eastern Conference, with two of those wins coming on the
road. That’s a good sign, since last season they were only 17-13 against the
East.



Winning 20 or more games against the East is imperative. Last season, , the
only West team that made the playoffs with fewer than 20 wins against the
East was the Los Angeles Lakers.
Don’t get the wrong impression. The Mavericks are happy at 7-4. It beats
what Brooklyn, Detroit and Denver — teams that thought they were serious
playoff contenders — are going through right now.
And the Mavericks are going about things the right way. They know victories
against Philadelphia mean the same in the final standings as victories over
Miami.



“I don’t really care, to be honest with you,” swingman Vince Carter said
about banking victories against good or bad teams. “When it’s time to play
the good teams, we have to beat them as well. More than anything, we have to
protect home. We have three games at home, and we got to win them. It can’t
matter who it is.”


All true. But until the Mavericks show that they can beat a top team, it’s
going to be difficult to believe that they have a surprising season in front
of them.

VC表示:I don't care 對上強的球隊時我們就會追求勝利

這點是實話

但值到小牛打敗強隊

要相信小牛會有一個好的球季十分困難
