Don't order your Chandler Parsons-Dallas Mavericks jersey just yet.
The Houston Rockets plan to match the Mavs' lucrative offer to Parsons if
they can also sign Miami Heat forward/center Chris Bosh, according to a
Houston Chronicle report. The report also says if the Rockets aren't able to
snag Bosh, it'd be a "tough, close call on Parsons."


At first, the second-half of that report might seem counterintuitive. If
Houston loses out on Bosh, wouldn't that be more of an incentive to retain
Parsons, a restricted free agent?


The Rockets' thinking, according to the Houston Chronicle, is that -- if they
don't sign Bosh and Parsons -- they could then use their salary-cap space to
lure free agents like Luol Deng, Trevor Ariza and Paul Pierce. Essentially
the cap space planned for Bosh and Parsons could morph into increased cash to
spend on other players.


Here's another variable in this free-agency equation: Timing.
Because Parsons is a restricted free agent, Houston is allowed a three-day
window to match the Mavs' offer, which is for three years and about $46
million, sources told SportsDay's Eddie Sefko. That three-day clock likely
began ticking late Wednesday night when Parsons inked the offer sheet. Mavs
owner Mark Cuban published photos on his Cyber Dust account of Parsons
signing paperwork of some kind with his parents proudly alongside watching at
what appeared to be a club in Florida.


The key part of three-day window involves Bosh and, of course, LeBron James.
If James decides to bolt the Miami Heat, then Houston is likely Bosh's new
home. And if the Rockets had their way, James would announce his decision in
the next three days to align with the timeline in place to match Parsons'
offer from the Mavs.


On the other hand, the Mavs would probably prefer James to delay his decision
past Saturday night (the presumed closing time of the three-day window). That
outcome would cause Bosh to delay his decision and could mean the Rockets
wouldn't match Parsons contract and instead hold out hope to sign Bosh. If
the dominoes fall that way, Parsons would be a member of the Mavs.
