figure 1 shows a plane-strain upsetting process. The process may also be thought of as a form of side extrusion. It is reasonalbe to assume that the deformation zone is analogous to plane-strain cutting. Based on this analogy and assuming the deformation zones to be a shear planes(s), calculate the pressure(p) required for the upsetting process of figure 1.
