Q: How stupid is everyone for thinking that the Heat has a realistic shot of
getting Allen Iverson? Let's be serious! Why would the Sixers give away "the
franchise" for Miami's dead weight?
A. "The bottom line is Pat Riley found ways to make deals for Shaquille
O'Neal, Alonzo Mourning and others when it didn't appear the Heat had the
goods to pull it off. Basically, it would have been negligence on his part if
he at least didn't call and engage in conversation. You never know unless you
try. Remember, four teams already have traded for Antoine Walker, so,
seemingly, every player has a market."
Q: Doesn't it seem like Antoine Walker has taken more charges in the Heat's
first 20 games than he has during his entire career?
A. "It doesn't just seem that way, it is that way. Basically, Walker has
found a way to accomplish more by standing still than being in motion."
Q: How come Dwyane Wade didn't have his wisdom teeth pulled in the offseason?
XD
A. "Because they started hurting during the season. Or are you of the belief
that it's better to simply grab the tonsils and appendix, as well, when you
can?"
Q: Why didn't Pat Riley try to acquire a proven point guard in the offseason?
The Heat are looking very thin at the position right now.
A. "I agree and have been blogging that for weeks. I can't fathom how a team
would think Jason Williams (and his knees), Gary Payton (and his age) and
Chris Quinn (and his youth) could work. They needed another point before;
they really need one now. Otherwise, the ballhandling burden is too great on
Wade to have to consistently work 94 feet against pressure."
Q: What happened to Dorell Wright? Has Pat Riley lost confidence in him
already?
A. "In some ways, Pat might have shown too much confidence. Wright basically
was gifted the starting role due to Antoine Walker's poor play. So far, the
kid hardly has thrived in the starting role."
Q: Isn't Alonzo Mourning a lock for the Hall of Fame?
A. "No. He certainly has a chance, but he never led a team to a title, simply
contributed to one late in his career. To be honest, I think it will be a
50-50 deliberation. The thing I always ask about Hall nominees is: Did they
change the game?"
Q: Has Jason Kapono exceeded expectations? Will he still see extended minutes
when everyone is healthy?
A. "To be honest, there wasn't much in the way of expectations until Kapono
started hitting a few shots. Considering the significance of 3-point shooting
in the league, Kapono likely will continue to play at least until Antoine
Walker or Jason Williams find their shooting strokes."
Q: Will Shaq be back for the Christmas Day game against the Lakers?
A. "No. And based on the latest projections, he might not be back for the
Jan. 15 game at Staples Center against the Lakers, either. Somehow, it's
difficult to envision O'Neal at Staples at anything less than 100 percent."
Q: Why isn't James Posey starting at small forward? Doesn't Antoine Walker
look lost this season?
A. "Yes, Walker looks lost. But Posey has thrived in his sixth-man,
energizing role, which is why Dorell Wright has bought extra time to turn his
game around."
Q: Will Jason Williams ever be healthy?
A. "Yes, after he retires, when there no longer is the constant pounding of
the NBA. I can't recall a time when a player has gone from constant
tendinitis to complete health. Surgery can alleviate some of the discomfort,
not eliminate it."
