Coach Pat Riley has designated a team captain for the first time in three
years, with power forward Udonis Haslem given the title.The Heat went without
formal captains the previous two years, with Wade or center Shaquille O'Neal
handling the pregame handshakes with referees and opposing captains.Neither
Wade nor O'Neal has formally received the title during their Heat tenures.
The last Heat player designed as captain was Eddie Jones in 2004-05.Jones
held that title for four seasons, sharing it for three with Brian Grant,
before Grant was dealt to the Lakers for O'Neal.
