Observations from Sunday's 94-92 exhibition loss to the Nets at O2 Arena in
London:
Still winless in the preseason since 2006. Now 0-3 this year, after an 0-7
preseason last year.

This time the Heat had a few regulars in at the end, but not even a nifty
driving hook by Dwyane Wade was enough.

Ultimately, offensive rebounds and the Nets' height advantage made the
difference in the decisive stages, as they swept the two games in Europe.

Marcus Banks was shaky as the starting point guard, but played well during the
latter stages of the second quarter. Perhaps that's what he is, a change-of-
pace, off-the-bench presence.

Banks then came out strong at the start of the third quarter, in what turned

Udonis Haslem not only made his exhibition debut, but was in the starting
lineup, joining center Mark Blount, small forward Shawn Marion, Banks and Wade.

Finally, midway through the third quarter, first-year coach Erik Spoelstra made
good on his vow to play Haslem at center, playing him alongside Marion and
Michael Beasley. Haslem wound up matched up against Nets rookie center Brook
Lopez, with the Heat playing the Nets evenly during that stretch.

Anthony was active in his late minutes, which is more that could be said for

It was nothing short of a ghastly start, with the Heat opening 2 of 11 from the

For all the talk of a new-look offense, there still can be too much of give-it-
to-Wade-and-get-out-of-the-way. That again had the turnovers up for Wade.

With Haslem back in the starting lineup, it had Yakhouba Diawara playing off
the bench for the first time. Diawara proved to be the Heat's only reliable
3-point threat.

Haslem, who had been out with a sprained left foot, had three early turnovers.

Still, he was just glad to be back. "It feels good," he said of the foot he
tested earlier in the day at the morning shootaround. "This is the longest time
that I've ever not played competitive basketball. I just want to get out there
and fit in."

The Heat missed the steadiness of point guard Chris Quinn, who missed his
second consecutive game with a sprained left ankle, after starting the opener.

man.
