[外電] SegmentII:Easing the big chiil

 With the Heat's season-longest seven-game trip essentially broken into West
(Denver, Sacramento, Los Angeles), Midwest (Minnesota, Milwaukee) and
Southwest (Houston, Oklahoma City) segments, some thoughts after Segment II:

The victories against the Timberwolves and Bucks cannot be overstated. No
matter the result of the final two games of the trip, the Heat will return
with a healthy record and a healthier outlook, considering only Dallas will
remain on its Western Conference road schedule. Amid the ridiculous chill
(Milwaukee, a minus-20 wind chill, was the warm spot compared to the minus-30
in Minneapolis), there were no excuses, even as Daequan Cook repeatedly had
to blow on his hands to keep up his hot shooting Wednesday in Milwaukee.

It's funny how you go through half a season and wind up back where you
started. The Heat's two greatest current concerns? Center and point guard.
Mario Chalmers has regressed to the mean on this trip. Some of that Kansas
championship swagger appears to be gone. And it is not beyond the realm that
Joel Anthony falls out of the rotation altogether at some point.

Not that there is any sort of nomination process, but if there were, it would
be interesting to see which the Heat would promote as its candidate for the
Sixth Man Award. Daequan Cook has been the epitome of a bench boost with his
3-pointers, but Michael Beasley has emerged as nothing short of a
game-changer when entering. It has been a while since the bench has appeared
this strong (then again, that's probably a function of the starting lineup
being two-fifths so shaky).

It is a shame that Marcus Banks hasn't been able to make it work. Late in
Wednesday's victory in Milwaukee, the Heat desperately needed a playmaker who
could contain Luke Ridnour. Instead, Chris Quinn repeatedly was beaten off
the dribble. What the Heat lacks at point guard is a contributor with a
complete skill set. Banks can shoot and defend, but running a team remains a
decided weakness, as he continues to languish on the inactive list.
