Heat's defensive play shows its rewards in win
防守為熱火隊帶來勝利
MIAMI — Two spectacular third-quarter plays were the Heat's calling card
from Wednesday's 93-71 victory over Washington. And coach Erik Spoelstra
couldn't be happier about both plays starting with good defense.
第三節中兩球的漂亮演出，彷彿意味著這場勝利的到來，熱火在主場以93-71拿下巫師。

On the first play, guard Dwyane Wade (14 points, nine rebounds, nine assists)
stole the ball from Washington's Javaris Crittenton near mid-court. As Wade
was tight-roping the sideline and falling out of bounds, he threw the ball to
forward Michael Beasley, who threw the ball back to Wade. Wade, who was
falling out of bounds near the baseline, somehow regained his balance enough
to throw an alley-oop pass to Daequan Cook, which he scored on to finish
the play.

"Those are the residual benefits of grinding it out and applying consistent
pressure," said Spoelstra, whose defense ranks second in turnovers forced
(16.1 per game), seventh in steals (8.2) and eighth in field-goal percentage
(.443).

a season-best six games over .500, territory it hasn't seen since it finished

And once again the Heat turned this defensive trick without forward Shawn
Marion, who missed his third consecutive game and fourth in the last five

Wade, the NBA's leading scorer, came just short of a triple-double.
He played only 29 minutes and sat out the entire fourth quarter.
He finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

Cook (16 points) and rookie forward Michael Beasley (16 points,3 blocks)
came off the bench to lead the Heat in scoring. Forward Udonis Haslem (14
points), Chalmers (10 points) and forward James Jones (10 points) also scored
in double digits.

The Heat's bench contributed 50 points and has contributed at least
34 points in four of the last five games. The bench was also instrumental

comfortable 70-56 advantage going into the final period.
Heat center Joel Anthony contributed three blocks.

last season.

The Heat now faces its chamber of horrors - Indiana. Miami has a 12-game
losing streak at Conseco Fieldhouse, where it will play the Pacers on Friday.

"Me and Dwyane were just talking about it a few minutes ago," Haslem said.

Maybe a good defensive effort will turn things around.
