MIAMI, 06/26 – The Miami HEAT have announced that they have acquired the
draft rights to Patrick Beverley, selected with the 42nd pick in the 2009 NBA
Draft, from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a 2011 second round draft
pick and cash considerations.
Beverley, a 6’1” 180-pound guard, spent last season with BC Dnipro of the
Ukrainian Basketball League and appeared in 46 games (all starts) and
averaged 16.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.15 steals and 1.35 blocks
in 35.8 minutes while shooting 48.0 percent from the field, 38.0 percent from
three-point range and 69.9 percent from the foul line. He led his team in
assist average, steals average and three-point field goal percentage while
ranking second in scoring average and rebounding average. Additionally, he
won the slam dunk competition in the 2009 UBL All-Star Game.
The former Razorback spent two seasons (2006-08) at Arkansas, where he was
named as the SEC Freshman of the Year and the SEC Newcomer of the Year,
before leaving to play professionally overseas appearing in 70 games (67
starts) and averaged 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.50 steals
while shooting 42.0 percent from the field, 38.2 percent from three-point
range and 73.0 percent from the foul line.
