Pat Riley explains decision to trade first-round pick

Pat Riley met with the media after the draft ended — and after our newspaper
deadlines.

Here, first, is some of his more interesting commentary about the draft, with
his thoughts on current players coming in the next blog:

– Riley said that he chose to “defer our pick and our asset to next year.
The players that we had on our board were not there at the time, and we felt
we had a great option with Philly to get a future first next year.” That
pick is lottery-protected for each of the next three years, but as Riley, “
could be 10 or 11 (slots) better that what we had this year.”

    我們延後我們的選秀順位和薪資到明年。當時我們的順位已經沒有我們要的人，且
我們覺得我們有很棒的選項就是跟七六人換到未來的選秀順位。那是一枚未來三年樂透
保護簽，但能比我們今年的順位好個10~11順位。


– Riley said the trade didn’t have anything to do with the luxury tax, but
the issue is that “roster spots are valuable, and we weren’t so sure
someone could make our roster,” so better to have that spot available for a
veteran.

定誰能進入我們的陣容中。從老將中找到可利用的人可能還比較好。


– Riley said that center Justin Hamilton, the pick at No. 45, could go
overseas. Miami is planning to bring back shot-blocker Jarvis Varnado, a
former second-round pick, over from Europe, to play in summer league and
possibly compete for a roster spot. Either way, don’t expect to see Hamilton
in a Heat uniform this season.

– Riley said while Hamilton “is not an above-the-rim player,” he “has
quick feet, takes up space.” The comparison, because of shooting ability?
Michael Doleac, who played on the Heat’s 2006 championship team. The Heat
had Hamilton in for a workout, and Riley felt the LSU product was the “best
big on the floor that day.” Riley said he would have traded the No. 45 pick
if there wasn’t anyone he liked.

    萊里說：「Hamilton不是一個飛人型的球員，但他有速度、能卡位。」或許因為投
射能力，熱火2006年冠軍成員的Michael Doleac被拿來做比較~ 熱火有邀請Hamilton來
試訓，覺得這位LSU出產的球員「是當天場上最棒的大個兒」萊里說若沒有喜歡的，他
就會換來45順位。

– Riley wouldn’t elaborate on how far ahead of No. 27 the players on his
board — for that slot — were picked.

– The major reason for the trade? It gives Miami a first-round pick as a
potential trade asset, which could come in handy with the Heat missing its
2013 and 2015 first-rounders (due to the LeBron James sign-and-trade) and not
allowed to deal its 2014 first-rounder.

    主要交易原因?熱火獲得了一枚有交易價值的首輪順位簽可供交易運用(因為LBJ先
簽後換而喪失的2013 和 2015首輪簽，且不用交易2014的首輪簽)
