Coon:
Player salaries cover the entire year of service, even though they
are only paid for six months. However, on top of that, there is a
playoff pool, which is distributed to the teams in the playoffs.
This year the total pool is $10 million (the amount is specified
in the CBA). The teams that go deeper in the playoffs get a larger
share of the pool, with the NBA champion receiving the largest share.
The players on each team decide how their share of the pool is divided.
A typical distribution is to split it evenly, one share to every player
and one to the team's equipment manager.
