I was soo touched! I think of our Eng dept very often and browse some girls' blogs to see all of ur pictures from time to time and also ask Apple and Little Fake to keep updated with our Eng dept . (Honestly, I really think all of you are getting soo mature and attractive!) How is everyone doing? I know many of you are swamped with grad school application stuff. I can't wait to hear more good news besides Pauline's. I am sorry to reply to your emails so late as I have been traveling in the States and don't have a constant access to the Internet. If you don't mind, can I just type some words and provide one of my latest pictures, instead of a short film of me talking? sorry about that~ I hope it won't cause you any inconvenience. There you go~ I would like to thank professors and my fellow classmates in the English Dept. for the inspiring and engaging environment. When I was in Taiwan, one concern I shared with many classmates is that we do not know what we can do as English majors, though a lot of people say a good command of English can get us everywhere. I was like many of my friends--I doubted whether English alone could actually be an advantage for my future career path.Don't a lot of people say learning Literature is impractical? Since I came to the States, I have been really thankful for analytical, reading, and writing skills I have acquired in the English Dept. In a world of overly commercialism, the ability to appreciate different cultures and approach social and cultural issues thoroughly is an asset that I will enjoy for the rest of my life. For those young and promising ladies (and also the minority group--girls' best friends--girly guys, our best partners for gossiping and talking about Lit. ^^), I would like to share this with you all. *Sandra Day O'Connor,*the first female Associate Justice<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Associate_Justice_of_the_Supreme_Court_of_the_United_States>of the Supreme Court of the United States<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supreme_Court_of_the_United_States> gave an advice to young women today: "Work hard, learn to read fast, and write well. It will get you almost anywere." After reading so many literature texts and taking torturing writing courses, I realize what advantage I have against other majors. ------------------------------------------------------------- I miss our Eng Dept so much! The only thing I might regret for studying abroad in my senior year is when I go back to Taiwan, most of you will be gone! Please say hi to everyone. I miss you all, seriously. If my message is too long, please let me know and I can do some editing. I am not sure if it is enough or too much. Thank you so much! Picture caption: I have had so much fun at William and Mary (W&M). W&M is a small state school and everyone is really close to each other. In this picture, I was holding the baby of a staff member at a farewell party in May (I am done with school already! Don't be jealous.) Isn't he adorable? :) -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢兔(ptt2.cc) ◆ From: 61.230.138.121
