Hi guys there, this is Sarah which is just coming back from the Model UN2004 .Haha,if u dont mind, i'd like to share some of my experiences from the conference held for three days this time. Since this is the very first time to hold the model UN for college students in Taiwan, and most of the particants are from NTU,i should be kind of nervous about the conference. For representing the delegate of the United Kingdom,my parnerts and i had been discussing in advance, searching informations in details throughout internet,library..even holding meeting online. In the first step what my partners and i need to do was setting our position, this was quite a struggle for me.As u know that i've heard of many facts of the Islamic/Arabic world since i became a student of Arabic department, but now i must represent the position of the UK!!(oh gosh,u know what?i just felt sometimes i want to tell some of the delegates "hey! u guys are totally misunderstanding..it does going this way...."something like this.)Also,i've been prepared for receiving many attacks since our position should be very same as the one of the US.(hoo~actually, not much...) (during the committee i was in the group CHR--> Committee of Human Rights) The area we would go through during this four-session conference is based on the case about prisoners toturing in Abu Ghraib, this was what we've done at the beginning of the committee-->setting agenda. .......There are still plenty of rule procedures in this committee,of course, we delegates must follow them all. This is also one of the parts that i learned, cause i could never know them until i use them!(something like we should raise the play cards to the chair if we need to speak...etc) Anyway,i did learn a lot from this conference due to the continuous debate, consideration, negotiation, cooperation between allies(thanks to many times of unmoderated caucuses...)these skills must be trainning by practices. And we did it!!Also, english is the official language used in the model UN,so it's a great chance to sharpen our skills in expression through english. Ha...it seems like i've written so much,(actually there are still plenty of words to say...anyway)but still,it's better to let u guys to experience it by urselves if u have chances. That's why i want to write this to u all.i am wondering why there isnt many students from the college of the foriegn languages of NCCU participating in such a big event, since many of us should like to pay more concerns on international affairs. For being part of the first generation of the Model UN,I TRUELY HOPE THAT U GUYS CAN PARTICIPATE IN THIS KIND OF CONFERENCE.so...hope to see u next year(hey..this is not a ad,and i'm not in the IESEC either..) To be honor,i did pay my time and sleep(i believe there's many working harder than me)to fufill this one of my dream,i still think it's worth it!! Okay..since i havent got enoght sleep during thetime of preparation of MUN,i think i gotta go to bed right now!! See ya guys tomorrow morning then :) -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 211.23.128.218
