One night during the American Civil War there was a heavy rain and in the
morning one soldier tied a string to his gun and began fishing in a shallow
pool, regularly raising and lowering his gun as though it were a fishing
pole. Finally, the captain noticed him. “ What're you doing here? ” the
captain asked. No response. “ Halt! ” commanded the captain. No cessation
in the fisherman's regular stroke. The colonel came. The captain's experience
was repeated.
The colonel called the surgeon, who recommended that the insane soldier be
given a discharge. Before it was given to the soldier the colonel asked, “
What're you fishing for? ” No reply. “ Well, give him the discharge, ”
continued the colonel, and the captain handed the document to the soldier,
saying loudly, “ Here, take this! ”
“ That's what I was fishing for, ” replied the soldier as he threw down his
gun, pocketed the discharge and immediately left camp.

沒 有 反 應 。 上 尉 下 令 ： 「 停 止 ！ 」 釣 魚 郎 的 固 定 動 作 沒 有 停
下 來 。 上 校 也 來 了 ， 同 樣 拿 他 沒 辦 法 。
上 校 叫 來 軍 醫 ， 軍 醫 建 議 解 除 這 發 瘋 士 兵 軍 職 。 退 伍 書 交 給
那 士 兵 之 前 ， 上 校 問 他 ： 「 你 要 釣 什 麼 ？ 」 沒 有 回 答 。 上 校
說 ： 「 把 退 伍 書 給 他 吧 。 」 上 尉 就 把 文 件 交 給 那 士 兵 ， 高 聲
說 ： 「 拿 支著 。 」
士 兵 回 答 說 ： 「 這 就 是 我 要 釣 的 東 西 。 」 他 拋 下 槍 ， 把 退 伍
書 放 進 口 袋 裡 ， 馬 上 離 開 軍 營 。
