又 All's well that ends well （ 只 要 結 局 美 滿 ， 此 外 種 種 就 都 算 美
滿 了 ） 一 語 ， 改 為 All that ends well is well ， 會 不 會 通 順 一 點 ？
Agree （ 同 意 ） 這 個 字 的 確 多 用 主 動 語 態 （ active voice ） ， 例 如
： All agree that it must be done at once 。 但 we / they / you be （ =are 、
were 等 ） agreed 卻 是 個 比 較 特 殊 的 說 法 ， 有 「 討 論 後 大 家 意 見
一 致 」 含 義 。 這 個 說 法 的 agreed ， 第 四 版 Longman Dictionary of
Contemporary English 視 作 形 容 詞 ， 獨 立 於 動 詞 agree 之 外 ， 是 另 一
詞 條 ， 其 後 用 介 系 詞 on 或 about ， 也 可 用 that 子 句 （ clause ） ，
例 如 ： （ 1 ） There is at least one point we are agreed on （ 最 少 有 一
點 是 大 家 都 同 意 的 ） 。 （ 2 ） They were agreed that the building had
to be pulled down （ 他 們 都 認 為 那 棟 建 築 物 須 拆 除 ） 。
至 於 All's well that ends well ， 照 文 法 的 確 可 改 為 All that ends well
is well ， 因 為 that 、 who 等 關 係 代 名 詞 （ relative pronoun ） 宜 貼 近
所 代 表 的 名 詞 。 不 過 ， All's well that ends well 是 成 語 ， 莎 士 比
亞 一 齣 喜 劇 也 以 此 為 名 ， 劇 名 中 文 多 譯 作 「 皆 大 歡 喜 」 。 而
約 定 俗 成 的 說 法 ， 最 好 不 要 改 動 。
英 文 還 有 一 句 成 語 All is not gold that glitters / glisters （ 閃 耀 者
未 必 都 是 黃 金 ， 凡 事 不 可 只 看 表 面 ） ， 那 that 字 也 沒 有 貼 近
所 代 表 的 名 詞 All 。 不 過 ， 另 一 常 用 說 法 All that glitters /
glisters is not gold 卻 完 全 「 符 合 文 法 規 定 」 ， 也 見 於 莎 士 比 亞
戲 劇 《 威 尼 斯 商 人 》 。
