Your first year PhD life seems really great. :|
But I guess it's because of the culture of difference department.
Usually in CS, first year will be the toughest year because
students are asked to pass qualify within the first 3 semesters.
So most students will busy for preparing qualify and taking course
in their first year. After that, they can start to enjoy their
PhD life. :)

So most CS PhD students start to travel around from 2nd or 3rd years.
