Center for soreness that has existed since the end of the season.

Newton battled an ankle injury at the end of the regular season and into the
playoffs. Team doctor Robert Anderson is a renowned foot and ankle specialist
and will perform the operation in Charlotte. Per beat writer Joe Person, the
goal of the surgery is to "tighten up the ligaments" in Newton's ankle.
Newton should be ready to roll for the start of training camp. With an
entirely new receiving corps on tap for Carolina, he can't afford to miss
much time.
