Last week is very special to me, because I heard Master Yao play the most heartbreaking Guqin pieces to me. I began to learn the most difficult section 13 of the whole "Da Hujia". In this section, composer used some technique to simulate the crying of children, then Tsai Wen Ji was took to the carriage, so the crying fade out. It's impossible for me to produce such effect, but when Master Yao playing, all things came out: the children crying and trembling, Tsai was heartbreaking, but she could only obey Minister Tsao's order. The carriage running, Tsai could hear nothing but her childrens crying in distance ...and far far away at last. In section 14, Tsai determined to forget anything in the place of Hu, but the road was not smooth, she unconciously to let anything came into her imagination...about her children, her father, her childhood, her life befor and after...etc. Later, Master Yao played the highlight of "Cuge" which describing the fail of Xian Yuh, and his farewell to Beauty Yuh. I've never studied this piece before, so I didn't know the section number, but Master Yao told me the section title, so that I could know "what's happenning." In Master Yao's playing, I could really see the siege of Liu Ban's militaries, then Xian Yuh try to break it by his courage (You can hear two forceful "Po La" technique here.), but finally he returned without success. He and Beauty Yuh said farwell to each other. "Shen Qi Mi Pu" uesd only two short phrase to depict Xian Yuh's farewell to Beauty Yuh, but this two short phrase sounds very very beautiful, fragile, songful and so tender in the whole piece that it seemed come from other lyrical piece. I really want to beg Master Yao stop playing, but I didn't do that, because I didn't wat to let him know my sentiment. The tears were already in my eyes, so I could not speak out ,too. But in this experience, I find that the piece in "Shen Qi Mi Pu" is more abstract than pieces in later tablature. If you have chance to learn a big piece from "Shen Qi Mi Pu", you can understand the "grammer" in those pieces. I don't listen to(also play) the later pieces recently, because I regard the piece in "Shen Qi Mi Pu" are far superior to them. I would like to study and play the ancient pices only afterward.
