1.Since we know almost nothing of the past history of
the characters in this story, can you tell what the
origin of the Olsons might be? What kind of parents
are they?
2.Characterize the little girl. What kind of girl is she?
Discuss the reason why the title of this story is
called: "The Use of Force."
3.Does the sick girl's physical beauty have anything
to do with the outcome and the meaning of the encounter?
Will the situation be any different if she was not so
"usually attractive"?
4.Can you find any fault with the doctor's behavior?
Has he done something that is simultaneously good and
evil? Was the component of evil avoidable? Judging from
the standard "doctor-patient relationship", was his
treatment of the sick girl appropriate?
