Ecrivain d’origine chinoise qui utilize la langue francaise comme moyen d’expression, Cheng puise son inspiration dans la culture de son pays natal. De cette culture, il privilegie en particulier le taoisme auquel il se refere incessamment dans ses creations romanesques. Ces dernieres se developpent depuis des conceptions taoistes comme le retour, le dialogue, la metamorphose, etc… Ainsi, elles se revelent impregnees d’une esthetique taoiste. A un autre niveau, cette esthetique renvoie a la biographie de Cheng lui-meme qui a parcouru un long cheminement caracterise par le retour, le dialogue, la metamorphose. Abstract: This study aims to analyze the way Taoism appears in the novels of Francois Cheng, Le dit de Tianye and L’Eternite n’est pas de trop, as their major theme. A writer from China, Cheng uses French as his language of creation. As a well-known French writer, he owes nevertheless his inspiration to his native culture. He emphasizes Taoism in particular, to which he refers constantly in his novels where such fundamental Taoist conceptions as return, dialogue, and metamorphosis play a crucial role in the development of their plots. They are thus characterized by Taoist esthetics.
