GPB/Exercise7
Note: This is the exercise for the last part of the course of this semester
(chapter 12 & 13). You don't have to hand it in, but working out the problems
will help you in the final exam.
The solutions will be posted here on 1/10.
[Thermal expansion] Kane & Sternheim 12-52 (p.304).
[Heat Capacity] Kane & Sternheim 12-12 (p.302).
[Specific Heat] Kane & Sternheim 12-61 (p.304).
[Heat Radiation] In K&S 12-61, the solar power is 400 W/m2. Show that this
can be found by heat radiation of Sun at 6000oK. Take emissivity of Sun = 1,
radius of Sun = 7 * 108m, average distance from Earth to Sun = 1.5 * 1011m,
and the power per m2 averaged over one day is 1/4 of the power per m2 at
normal incidence of sunlight.
[Heat Conduction and Latent Heat] Kane & Sternheim 12-70 (p.305).
[hydraulic jack] Kane & Sternheim 13-48 (p.331).
[Applicability of Bernoulli's Equation] Kane & Sternheim 13-14 (p.329).
[Bernoulli's Equation] Kane & Sternheim 13-34 (p.330).
