Few subjcets and objects could rivle the mass media today in terms of
influence. Equipped with an overwhelming power - in radio, in TV, in paper -
mass media could serve as a great drive in promoting a great social cause.
However, the same overwhelming power, if directed into wrong application
merely based on self intererted, could lead to detrimental or even suicidal
results.
The most pronounced examples are probably indentified in political
commentary programs and commercials. The shooting of the former, through the
marriage of images and voice are broadcasting verbal abuse, mischaracterization
or false ideologies taht aim to in the publics as a result. The wrong in
commercials are even more serious. Through the brainwashing, the watchers,
young and old, are misled into greed for a quick fortune; into a frenzied
worship for luxurious commodities; into a fasting the body in order to be
slim and beautiful or to be somebody not thermselves. As these influence
begin to reveal themselves, the result will be the loss of morality, judgement,
health, truth, and money.
Although the media today are congested of unnecessary programs, they could
still be the most important rule in correcting these mess. The most criticized
addiction of youngster to media can just serve as the tailwind to promote the
traditional ethics which are used to be told by parents among those
not-been-cared kids. Take NHK, the bigest Japanese channel, for example, they
broadcast a historical series with popular stars every year, not only to told
the events in the past but also to teach the watchers and the actors or actress
those lessons learned in historical tragedies. With these efforts, NHK's
historical series become the most popular series in Japan, and obviously,
Japanese culture become the most wide expressed one in the world.
