Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho《約書亞贏得耶利哥城之役》
此曲原本是一首相當著名的黑人靈歌，歌詞內容出自舊約聖經約書亞記第六章十
五至二十一節，闡述約書亞獲得神諭，成功地使耶利哥四周的城牆倒下，並且佔領耶
利哥城。全曲節奏鮮明，旋律既輕快又活潑，是屬於黑人靈歌中比較偏爵士搖滾的一
首歌曲。
今晚所要演出的版本，是由美國近代作曲家 Edwin Fissinger(1920-1992) 所改
編的無伴奏混聲四部合唱曲，事實上它的和聲變化更多達六部，節奏與和聲是本曲各
種編曲版本中最難的一首。樂曲的一開始，工整的六部和聲由強而弱唱著「O Joshua.」
像是群眾齊聲呼喊著約書亞，緊接著，由男聲八度合音帶出主題，述說著約書亞的事
蹟，在女聲加入合唱之後，獨唱者高聲唱出約書亞的偉大，並且述說著讓城牆傾圯的
經過，其間夾以輪唱與齊唱的方式，像是以色列後代子民在傳頌著他的功績。樂曲最
後，那極其激昂的吶喊，重現了當城門倒下那時群眾高亢的情緒。
