看板 NTUChorus 關於我們 聯絡資訊
以下是我朋友用email寄給我的comments... 以下Tina是指朋友的朋友... The whole performance was very, very good, much better than the last time I heard the NTU choir. This was confirmed by Tina’s hsueh jieh who works for the conductress. She also said that it was a much better performance than last time. Tina’s hsueh jieh was in Tina’s choir in their college days. The separation of the different voices was very clear and yet, all of them blended beautifully. The song selections were quite good – heavy stuff on the first half, and light on the second half. The skill of the choir was clearly manifested in the church hymns, i.e., Magnificat. In fact, the conductress repeated the last 1/3 of this song as encore. The NTU choir is very lucky to have around 40 male members with beautiful tenor and bass; most choirs have only a handful of male singers. I particularly enjoyed one piece in English sung by all male singers. To make an impartial comment, I must mention a few glitches: 1) There are very few coloratura sopranos to make a perfect ending of the sopranos’ part when it came to the high notes at the end. The Chunghwa Telecom choir has a lot of coloratura sopranos and in fact, Amy has mentioned to me that there are several sopranos whose pitch is higher than hers. 2) Because of a lack of coloraturas, at one point, when they were supposed to sing at a very high pitch, they were completely drowned by the other voices. However, in fairness to them, when the pitch was not very high, the sopranos did a wonderful job of singing in a powerful manner. 3) The choir did a better job of singing in Latin, Italian, Tagalog, rather than in English, at least for the first English song. I thought I was the lonely one who could not understand their first English song but Tina said the same. I tried to rationalize the unclear pronunciation by saying that the English tongue sounds harsher than the romance languages because English ends mostly with consonants as opposed to the vowel sounds of the romance languages. Tina said that there was another possibility because her choir had also done the same thing - when they did not memorize well, they went to the next line hurriedly, in order to cover the deficiency. It might be true, because the rest of their songs in English was quite clear. Overall, the choir did a very good job and the conductress should be commended for bringing the best in them.
