Roger Federer made plain for all to see his desire to win the Roland Garros
title for the first time by fighting back from a two-set deficit to defeat
German Tommy Haas 6-7(4), 5-7, 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 and reach the Roland Garros
quarter-finals on a gripping Monday afternoon in Paris.
After the shock departures of Novak Djokovic on Saturday and Rafael Nadal on
Sunday, all eyes turned to World No. 2 Federer – the man spurned by Nadal in
the past three Roland Garros finals – to see if he would be able to
capitalise on their misfortunes in his pursuit of the career Grand Slam.

won it on his 11th appearance at Roland Garros in 1999, when he fought back
from two sets down against Andrei Medvedev in the final. Coincidentally, the
27-year-old Federer is also making his 11th appearance at Roland Garros.

all-time record of 14.
