hemophilia C : FXI deficiency
plasma thrombomodulin : The degraded form of thrombomodulin which is soluble
in plasma.Its EGF-like domain 3-6 has the ability to
activate TAFI and EGF-like domain 4-6 can activate
protein C.
TAFI(Thrombin Activated Fibrinolysis Inhibitor)
A kind of carboxypeptidase which can inhibit fibrinolysis upon being activated
by thrombin-thrombomodulin complex even thrombin alone.
I think the most important implication of the paper which I presented is that
as most TM in vivo is present on the surface of endothelial cells and capable
of regulating both APC and TAFI activation, any therapeutic inhibition of
plasma TM with a monoclonal antibody must avoid interfering with the
regulation of TAFI activation by membrane TM on the endothelium.
