Glam rock combined the hard rock crunch of heavy metal with bubblegum pop
melodies and a glitzy flair for theatrical dramatics. In the early '70s,
it was one of the most popular styles of rock & roll in Britain, as T. Rex,
David Bowie, and several other similar artists dominated the charts.
Though it never crossed over into the American market, it had a lasting effect
on rock & roll, as both heavy metal and post-punk in the late '70s and '80s
demonstrated a massive debt to the riffs and look of glam rock.
