Yankees Reach Deal With Top Pick

洋基跟第一輪選秀完成簽約

The Yankees and their first-round pick in this year’s draft, the
right-hander Andrew Brackman, reached agreement on a contract yesterday,
hours before the Yankees would have lost his rights.

If Brackman and the Yankees had not worked out a deal by midnight, the
Yankees would have been compensated with a draft pick next year. Brackman
could have returned to North Carolina State for his senior year.

如果在午夜之前未完成簽約, 洋基明年會獲得一個選秀權補償.

“I feel like the weight of the world is off my shoulders — for today,”
 Brackman told the North Carolina State Web site, gopack.com. “Tomorrow, I
have to get my things packed up and go to Tampa, and see what will happen
from there.”

Brackman agreed to a four-year major league contract with three club options,
and was placed on the 40-man roster. The Yankees designated infielder Chris
Basak for assignment.

The Yankees selected the 6-foot-10 Brackman with the 30th pick in the
first-year player draft June 7. He was 6-4 with a 3.81 earned run average in
13 starts as a junior for North Carolina State last season.

Brackman, 21, may have slipped in the draft because of elbow problems he
experienced this season. He may need surgery, which would probably make him
unavailable to pitch for the Yankees next year.

“Well, we drafted him in the first round, so we feel he’s got an upside,”
 General Manager Brian Cashman said yesterday at Yankee Stadium after the
Yankees’ 6-3 loss to Baltimore but before Brackman’s signing was announced.

According to the Web site, Brackman was in Birmingham, Ala., to have his
elbow examined by the surgeon James Andrews.

“The elbow is still a little aggravated,” Brackman said. “But the ligament
is not torn, so that is good news.”

"手肘還是有點不大舒服." Brackman說.
