Title: Bullpen Coach
Bio:
Begins his second consecutive season as Yankees Bullpen Coach in
2007...Joined the Yankees coaching staff in 2006 after spending much of the
2005 season as a special adviser to Yankees Senior Vice President and General
Manager Brian Cashman...previously spent two seasons as the Phillies pitching
coach from 2003-'04...Served parts of five seasons as pitching coach of the
Boston Red Sox from 1997-2001, until he succeeded Jimy Williams as the 42nd
manager in Red Sox history on 8/16/01...in 1999, his Red Sox pitching staff
led the American League in almost every statistical category...Spent five
seasons as pitching coach with the Montreal Expos from 1992-'96...Began his
coaching career with the Expos as the bullpen coach from 1983-'86 before
working as a pitching coach in the minor leagues for five seasons...Worked
his way through the Expos organization, coaching at Double-A Jacksonville in
1987, Triple-A Indianapolis from 1988-1990 and at Double-A Harrisburg in
1991.
Playing Career:
In parts of four Major-League seasons (with Montreal in 1976-77 and with
Baltimore from 1978-80), compiled an 8-12 record with a 3.89 ERA in 131 games
(two starts)...recorded the first two wins of his Major-League career (and
his only victories of the season) on 9/8/76 at St. Louis, winning both ends
of a doubleheader...led the 1977 Expos' staff with 11 saves and ranked second
on the team with 66 appearances.
Personal:
Married (Abigail) and has one son, Joseph (11/1/76) and one daughter, Kelly
(3/21/78)...was born, raised and still resides in Philadelphia, PA...Was an
outstanding athlete at Father Judge High School in Philadelphia and later
attended Temple University for two years on a baseball and basketball
scholarship...Spent the 2002 season with Comcast SportsNet as a Phillies
postgame analyst and color commentator.
