Twins get Young; Santana deal next?

The dynamics of a possible Johan Santana trade changed just now as the Twins
obtained Delmon Young from Tampa Bay as part of a six-player deal.

Young has been a right fielder for the most part. But the Twins plan to use
him in left. They still need a center fielder.

Trading Garza means the Twins almost certainly need to get a MLB-ready
starter in any trade they make for Santana. Prospects won’t do it.

The question is whether they consider Ian Kennedy good enough or will hold
out for Phil Hughes.

wait for the price to rise in Nashville. Offer them Kennedy, Cabrera and
somebody else and see if they bite.

If Melky goes to Minny, what then in CF?

For blogging sake, let’s say the Yankees trade Melky Cabrera to the Twins as
part of the package for Johan Santana and keep Austin Jackson.

What should they do for a center fielder in 2008?

Here is why I think Melky is readily expendable: They have Johnny Damon.
After his awful spring last season, Damon will show up ready to play in
February. Put him in center, Matsui in left and use Giambi, Duncan and others
as the DH. Melky has a great arm and he saved a few runs with throws. But
Damon covers just as much ground and his weak arm really doesn’t come into
play all that often.

因為洋基有Damon, 所以我認為Melky可以被交易.
在上一季的慘痛開季之後, Damon明年二月出現時會準備好.
放Damon在中外野, 松井在左外野, Giambi和Duncan等可以當DH.

Melky有很強壯的手臂, 他的一些長傳幫球隊省了一些分數.
Damon跟Melky的守備範圍差不多大, 他的虛弱手臂並不會常常用到.

Then wait to see how Jackson develops.

In my mind, it would be foolish to sign a center fielder because anybody
decent (like Aaron Rowand or Andruw Jones) is going to command a multi-year
deal.

白痴才會去簽一個中外野手, 因為任何一個像樣的都會要求一的複數年合約.

If Jackson has a chance to be a star, don’t block him. He’s on target to
start next season at Scranton.

Jackson明年球季目標是在Scranton先發上場.
