大家都知道Hughes有個人部落格吧?
Morgan Ensberg請Hughes代貼了一篇頗有趣的日記，全文如下。

Morgan ran across my blog one day and about a week ago asked if he could
guest blog. Of course I agreed. Hope you enjoy.

某天Ensberg看到我的部落格，於是一周前，他問我是否能代貼文章。我當然同意了，
希望你們能開心。

So here we go…

所以接下來是他的文字...

        This is the first time I have ever blogged anything.  To be 100%
honest with you, I don’t really know what to write about.  This was an
incredible discovery for Seinfeld.  Heck, he made a whole TV show about not
having anything to talk about.  But the whole purpose of a blog is to give a
point of view and for that matter, give you a point of view about baseball.
So here you go.

這是我第一次寫部落格。不騙你，我真的不知道要寫啥。但是部落格的目的就是要
寫一些觀點，為了這個目的，我想給你們一些關於棒球的觀點，所以來吧。

        TV contracts are a really big deal in baseball.  So much so that the
umpire at second base has a stop watch and starts it immediately following
the last out of the inning.  We all sit and warm up and wait until a minute
and 30 seconds (I think that is how long) has passed.  You will see the home
plate umpire standing and waiting, the batter will be outside the batters box
waiting, and you will see the pitcher standing behind the mound and looking
at second base and waiting for the umpire to move back into the outfield or
put his hat on (the signal that we have passed the time needed for
commercials) and that tell us we can start.  It drives all of us crazy.

在棒球比賽裡，電視契約是一個非常重要的事情。它重要到，在每半局最後一個人出局
時，二壘審會立刻按下碼表開始計算時間。這時球員會坐下來、暖身，等一分鐘又30秒
過去(我想應該是這麼長)。你會看到主審在本壘板後方等、打者在打擊區外等，投手在
投手丘後等，並且兩眼盯著二壘，等二壘審移回外野區或戴回帽子(這是廣告時間結束
的暗號)，讓我們知道可以開打了─這件事情能把所有人搞瘋。

        The next idea that I have is about opposing fans.  I love it when a
fan is yelling at me and says something really witty.  Not just yelling to be
heard by the people around him, but something really funny.  If it is good, I
will laugh at it myself.  I want it to be funny.  But let me tell you this,
if you say “you suck” we know that you don’t know what to say and you
probably aren’t very funny.  To us it is like saying “um”.  We hear it all
the time and it is just a sound with no meaning.  Take your time and don’t
get caught up in the moment.  Timing is everything and if you can think of
something genuinely funny, you will have my respect.

下一件我想寫的是關於對手的球迷。我蠻愛球迷向我大吼並說一些巧妙的東西。不只是
他附近的人會聽到，而是他們說的真的很有趣。如果這些東西不錯，我會自己笑出來。
我希望這些吼叫是有趣的。但讓我告訴你一件事，如果你說，「你爛斃了！」，我們會
知道你其實不曉得要說甚麼，而且你大概一點都不有趣。對我們來說，這就好像是「嗯」
一樣。我們總是聽到這句話，這實在等同於一個沒有意義的聲音了。慢慢來，別在當下
被抓到。時機是一切，如果你能想出一個真正的有趣東西，我會尊敬你的。

Finally, the Office is the greatest show on the planet, and I would like to
pose this question to all of you….

最後，Office是地球上最棒的秀了，我想要問所有人一個問題...

Would an average sized row boat support phil and me without capsizing?

一個一般大小的船能載的了Hughes和我而不沉沒嗎？ (這是甚麼問題...)

        One more thing, I love reading and I really love to read non-fiction.
 If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.  Just email Phil and
he can pass them on to me.  Hopefully you will send enough recommendations
