[新聞] Yankees' Cashman hints at free-agency plans

The Yankees plan to be big-time hunters in the free-agent market this
offseason. They almost have to be, with $75 million-plus coming off the books
and a starting rotation to remake.

Yet Brian Cashman said at a news conference to announce his re-signing that
fans shouldn't get too attached to any particular free-agent-to-be: "As our
fan base, I would not have high expectations on certain guys because, just
because you put certain guys on the top of your list doesn't mean you're
going to be on the top of their list."

Cashman can't name names because of tampering rules, but that would seem to
be code for CC Sabathia. The Brewers ace lefthander is said to be partial to
returning to his home state of California, though the Yankees will do all
they can to entice him to come to New York.

Whether it's Sabathia or others, the Yankees will find a way to upgrade their 
starting pitching. A.J. Burnett, Ben Sheets, Derek Lowe and Oliver Perez are 
among the free agents expected to be bandied about. In an interview with WFAN
yesterday, Cashman said the Yankees plan on having Joba Chamberlain as a
starter all season, and confirmed that via e-mail. But that leaves only
Chamberlain and Chien-Ming Wang as locks for the rotation.
