  Here are a bunch of lesser known Yankees prospects who have shown that

  they have talent. You may not have heard of to many of them because they aren

  ’t in Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects or the Top 10 Prospects in the

  Yankees organization, but I think you will hear from these guys soon enough.

  I listed some biographical info, 2008 season statistics, and a scouting

  report.



  Ryan D. Zink  23 | P  Charleston RiverDogs (Class A South Atlantic League)

   [The Bronx Bombers took Zink in the 17th round with the 544th overall pick.

  Zink went 7-3 in 2007, his first season back on the mound after undergoing

  Tommy John surgery to his right elbow last year. He posted a 4.42 earned run

  average in 70 innings of work that spanned 13 starts. He saved his best for

  last, tossing 15 consecutive innings without an earned run in his last two

  starts. On June 1st Zink turned in the best pitching performance in UIC

  history at the NCAA Long Beach Regional, one-hitting 16th-ranked and

  top-seeded Long Beach State for eight innings and striking out five Dirtbags

  in the Flames' 4-1 victory and first-ever NCAA Regional win. In three years

  at UIC Zink has a record of 24-12 with six saves and a career ERA of 3.33. He

  is the last UIC pitcher to throw a no-hitter, accomplishing the feat as a

  freshman against Youngstown State on May 16, 2004.]

  notching a 4-1 record with a 2.27 ERA. Posted a combined 4-0 record with a

  0.71 ERA (4ER, 51.0IP) in 18 games (seven starts) with the Yankees' Dominican

  Summer League teams...limited opposing hitters to a .138 batting average

  (24-for-174)...after three professional seasons, owns a 13-1 record with a

  1.31 ERA. Pitched at three different levels (Class A Advanced Tampa, GCL

  Yankees and Class A Short-Season Staten Island), working exclusively as a

  reliever and combining to post 15 saves with a 5-0 record and a 1.93 ERA. He

  ranked second among all Minor Leaguers, averaging 14.60 strikeoutsper 9.0IP

  and ranked 10th with a .160 opponents batting average.]

  [Mexican left-hander Manuel Banuelos was a huge positive to the GCL Yankees,

  since many of their players were dropping like flies with injuries. Banuelos,

  signed back in February this year, helped the organization get a jump on the

  International market in 2008 by having an immediate strong showing in the

  Gulf Coast League this year. While the numbers were quite impressive, they

  paled in comparison to the presence he brought to the mound at a young age.]

  [The Yankees selected Flannery in the 47th round this June out of Fairleigh

  Dickinson-Florham Park and assigned him to their rookie league affiliate in

  Tampa, Fla. Flannery had pitched 18 2/3 innings with four saves in 11 relief

  appearances. Flannery, a converted starter, said he's been used as a set-up

  man for stints of one to three innings. Flannery worked on a splitter in

  college but has so far stuck with his four-seam and two-seam fastballs,

  sinking fastball, curve and change. The Yankees' instructors have yet to work

  with him extensively on mechanics.]

  [The Yankees signed 16-year old outfielder Eduardo Sosa for $525,000 out of

  Venezuela as part of their 'July 2nd' signing group this past year. While he

  is known for his speed and defense right now, the Yankees believe in his

  future bat. Sosa is knowns as a good contact hitter and Yankees officials are

  very high on him.]

  appeared in 13 games for the Yankees' Dominican Summer League team, going 5-3

  with a 1.60ERA in his first professional season. In '06, Noesi fought through

  a long stint on the disabled list with a strained right shoulder and made

  five relief appearances with the Yankees' Gulf Coast League team...walked

  only one batter while recording 11 strikeouts in 7.0IP. The Associated Press

  reports New York Yankees P prospect Hector Noesi was suspended for the first

  50 games of the 2007 season after testing positive for a banned

  performance-enhancing substance under baseball's minor-league drug program.

  He was reinstated on 5/28 and pitched in five games before being placed on

  the disabled on 6/23 with a right elbow strain for the remainder of the

  season.]

  [Drafted in the 35th round and assigned to the middle relief role, Andy Shive

  had largely gone unnoticed this season until he was rewarded with spot on the

  New York Penn League All-Star Team. In 20 appearances and one start this

  season, he has a 9-2 record - his nine wins are a Staten Island record - with

  a 2.14 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 42 innings. He was a '08 NYP Mid-Season

  All-Star.]

  [On July 31, 2008, Núñez was traded to the New York Yankees for infielder

  Alberto Gonzalez. He has joined the Yankees AA affiliate, the Trenton

  Thunder. Núñez is a fastball/slider pitcher with a 94-mph sinker. He has a

  three-quarters arm slot and can throw a changeup, but it's apparently a

  secondary pitch. During the offseason, Núñez lives in San Jose de las

  Matas, Dominican Republic.]

  a 1.35 ERA...ranked second among all GCL pitchers in ERA and held opponents

  [He's a right-handed pitcher from Georgia Tech. The New York Yankees selected

  Georgia Tech relief pitcher Brad Rulon with its 34th round selection in the

  2008 MLB Draft. The right-hander worked as both a setup man and closer for

  the Yellow Jackets. Rulon finished his collegiate career ranked third in

  school history with 117 game appearances. In 2008, Rulon made a team-high 34

  appearances, 26 of which were scoreless outings. He had a 3-1 record for the

  yellow jackets with a 4.15 ERA in 34 appearances all in relief. He struck out

  42 in 34.2 innings of work.]

  [The Yankees 2008 11th Round Pick. Ray Kruml became the reason why the Staten

  Island Yankees clicked on offense this year. According to Jaguars Coach Steve

  Kittrell, Kruml’s best tool is his speed. A sernior, he led the Sun Belt

  Conference with 31 stolen bases and played an above-average centerfield where

  his legs, coupled with a strong arm, makes him a plus-defender. Kruml posted

  a .350 batting average this season, reaching base at a .421 clip. He’s shown

  the ability to hit when down in the count but will need to refine his

  two-strike approach to succeed at the next level. Batting leadoff, Kruml

  considerably improved his power numbers, raking eight home runs, 21 doubles,

  and 46 RBIs. South Alabama has a history of developing solid outfielders

  (Luis Gonzalez, Juan Pierre, and Adam Lind). Kruml will start off in the New

  York-Penn League with Staten Island.]

  [Marshall has leapt on the map showing a huge jump in velocity, from 87-88

  mph a year ago all the way up to 96 this year. He's got a plus slider to go

  along with it. The changeup lags behind, but that can come in time. He's

  relatively new to pitching and it shows in his delivery and his inability to

  repeat his mechanics. But with two plus pitches right now, Marshall's name is

  certainly on the rise. Marshall threw his fastball in the 94-96 mph range. A
