      "I'm very impressed, and being a hitting coach I don't talk a lot about
      defense, but I'm very impressed with his defensive abilities at
      shortstop," former Yankees hitting coordinator and current Blue Jays
      hitting coach Gary Denbo said of Angelini. "I got an opportunity to watch
      him during the mini-camp when I wasn't in the cage and he's impressive to
      watch. He's got some athletic movements at shortstop and he seems to do
      things easily defensively."

      A smooth defensive shortstop, he hit .443 in his senior year of high
      school with just six home runs but managed to steal 38 bases and score 58
      runs in just 40 games en route to racking up a ton of awards, including
      being named to the Louisville Slugger First-Team All-American team.

      Considered one of the elite high school prospects entering the draft, a
      seemingly firm commitment to Rice University allowed him to fall to the
      Yankees in the tenth round and both he and the Yankees feel he was
      destined to wear pinstripes.

      "Well, being that the Yankees drafted me, I’ll say I could compare myself
      to Jeter," Angelini confidently told us on draft day back in June. "I’m a
      shortstop, I’ve got a lot of tools, and I’m a leader. I’ve been the team
      captain of my high school team for all four years I was there. I think I
      have a lot of similar traits as him."

      Inevitably and consistently compared to Derek Jeter from scouts and team
      officials alike with his similar skill-set and infinitely mature approach
      on and off the field, like Jeter, everybody agrees Angelini has the
      intangibles to be a very successful player in professional baseball.

      而不可避免的被球探和球隊拿來和Jeter比較. Angelini和Jeter真的非常相似,不管

      "Offensively I see him as a line-drive type hitter, a gap-to-gap hitter,
      and he has the ability to move the ball around the field," Denbo added.
      "He's going to be a guy to execute situational type hitting and he's got a
      lot going for him for such a young guy.

      defensively. That's something you don't see out of high school players,

      balance, and don't rush when they do things. Those are skills that we have
      to develop for most players and he's already there."

      Even with just one token pinch-hit at-bat with the Gulf Coast League
      Yankees in their final regular season game to his credit at the
      professional level, he gets set to begin his career as one of the more
      confident players.

      "I feel better and better everyday that I play," he said after
      participating in two Instructional Leagues this offseason. "I think as
      long as I keep working hard and keep working towards my goals, competition
      is not a problem at all. I can compete with these guys any day of the
      week."

      Not known for being a slugger, Angelini and the Yankees realize his
      inherent value offensively comes with his mature approach at the plate.

      "I like it, he's got good discipline at the plate right now, that's what I
      see," said current Yankees hitting coordinator James Rowson. "He
      understands the strike zone and he swings at strikes.

      While some critics will question his physical stature and his ability to
      hit for power, not to mention his lack of professional experience so far,
      nobody seems too concerned he has what it takes to be a top prospect real
      soon - especially Angelini himself.

      "I'm just out of high school so I'm not the size of a lot of these guys.

      Batting and Power. Angelini has an extremely mature approach at the plate
      for a player his age and with his lack of professional experience,
      employing great patience and solid up-the-middle-to-opposite-field plan.
      He is already a polished situational hitter, one who has the look of a
      very good hit-and-run batter. He is more of gap-to-gap hitter at the
      current time but he does have the type of body frame to add on useful
      muscle mass and improve his power. He also doesn't get rattled and shows
      the confidence of a seasoned veteran, great traits to be a high-average
      hitter.

      Base Running and Speed. Angelini is not the burner his stolen base totals
      in high school would indicate, but he is quite quick and very athletic. He
      is a very intelligent base runner, one who picks his spots to run wisely
      and projects to be a 20+ stolen base threat in the professional ranks.

      adept at positioning himself correctly already. He has a solid arm, an
      even quicker release, and he can make all the necessary throws. He is
      already one of the more steady defensive shortstops in the farm system.

      Projection. Angelini is one of the more confident players around and he
      shows it without an ounce of arrogance either. It is that type of
      confidence that allows him to carry himself in such a mature fashion and
      it shows in all facets of his game. His makeup is off the charts, and with
      his solid tools - smooth defensive play, gap-to-gap hitting, patient
      offensive approach, contact hitting ability, above average speed, and
      leadership skills - he truly resembles a young Derek Jeter and projects to
      be a very good #2 hitter in a big league lineup someday. He has a long way
      to go to have a Jeter-like career but the foundation is certainly there.

      ETA. 2012. Despite virtually no professional experience, his game is solid
      enough to possibly begin his career in the South Atlantic League in 2008.
      If he accomplishes that feat he has the makeup to reach the big leagues
      sooner than our ETA but we're going to remain a little less aggressive in
      his career path for now.

      ETA: 2012年: 雖然沒有任何的職業經驗,但是他穩定的表現可能讓他在2008年時於
           South Atlantic聯盟開始他的職業生崖..但如果他表現的很好比我們預期還要
           更早上大聯盟. 我們會保持比現在還要少一點驚訝.

  24. Carmen Angelini - Statistically it wasn't a very good year for
      Angelini. He hit just .236 with four home runs and committed 42 errors in
      his first full minor league season. Most observers chalk it up as a
      learning lesson and the majority feel his season wasn't symbolic of his
      true abilities. He is a much better defender than his error totals suggest
      and getting stronger physically would go a long way towards helping him
      offensively. It would be a mistake to overlook Angelini based on his first
      season.
