: best: spending more than anybody else. They lavished $161 million on Sabathia
: and $82.5 million on Burnett, hoping to add two anchors to a rotation that

: Joe Girardi’s bullpen management stood out as his best work of his first
: season at the Yankees’ helm. The injuries to the starters put a heavy burden
: on the bullpen, but Girardi spread the work around, keeping the relievers
: fresh and getting consistent performances from a variety of pitchers. Edwar
: Ramirez and Jose Veras enter the season as middle men, with Dan Giese the
: long reliever and rookie Phil Coke and veteran Damaso Marte as left-handed
: options. Hard-throwing Brian Bruney overcame a serious foot injury and
: enjoyed a lights-out September, with 10 shutout appearances to close the
: season. The closer, Mariano Rivera, remains incomparable. He blew only one
: save opportunity last season and issued only six walks.

: History shows it’s very hard to win with a shortstop who’s 35 years old, as
: Derek Jeter will be in June. (According to Sports Illustrated, none of the
: past 56 playoff teams has had a shortstop that old.) Jeter never fares well
: in defensive statistical analysis, and it is illogical to predict his range
: to increase as he ages. But Jeter stays in impeccable shape, he still hits
: better than almost any other AL shortstop and he is the face of the
: franchise, if not the entire industry. Second baseman Robinson Cano was a
: major disappointment last season, needing a late surge just to get his
: average to .271. Cano missed the tough-love influence of departed coach Larry
: Bowa, and Girardi never benched him for lackadaisical play until the Yankees
: were far out of the race. Cano’s talent is unquestioned, though, and a
: late-season mechanical adjustment and vigorous offseason workout routine have
: the Yankees optimistic that he can find his All-Star form again.

紀更大的他防守範圍也不可能違反常理的變大,但是Jeter的打擊依然維持的不錯,他打的

比大多數的美聯SS都要好,而且他還是洋基的靈魂人物.

Cano去年的表現也讓人失望,他去年只打出了0.271的AVG,Bowa去年離開了他,而阿吉在我們

離季後賽越來越遠之前從來不會因為Cano在場上懶散的表現而罰他坐板凳.我們不需要去

質疑Cano的天份,經過了這個季後的調整,洋基相信Cano可以找回他該有的水準.

: Corners
: Only with the Yankees could the corner infielders be making almost $50
: million between them. But that’s the going rate for players the caliber of
: third baseman Alex Rodriguez and Teixeira. It is customary for Rodriguez to
: follow an MVP season with a major letdown, and last year was no exception.
: His final numbers looked good, but close observers of the team knew they were
: hollow. The hitting coach, Kevin Long, said that while Rodriguez was
: distracted by going through a divorce last summer, he improved his mindset
: during the offseason. However he does it, Rodriguez needs to be the best
: player in the league again. One skill that never deserts him is arm strength,
: which may be unrivaled among third basemen. This season, he’ll fire strikes
: to Teixeira, his former teammate with the Rangers, who signed a staggering
: eight-year, $180 million contract in late December. Teixeira, a two-time Gold
: Glover, should be on base for Rodriguez constantly, while posting big power
: numbers of his own as he takes over for Jason Giambi.

: Outfield
: This could be an area in flux for the Yankees over the next two seasons. For
: now, there’s Johnny Damon in left, Xavier Nady in right and a competition
: between Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner in center. But Damon is in the last
: year of his contract, Nady will be a free agent for the first time after the
: season, and top prospect Austin Jackson is the center fielder of the future.
: Damon showed last season that he still had plenty of life, and while he’s no
: longer a center fielder, he’s essentially the same offensive weapon he has
: been for years. Nady slumped toward the end of the season, but it was still
: his best offensive year, giving the Yankees hope that, at 30, he is a player
: squarely in his prime. He will be a defensive upgrade over Bobby Abreu,
: though the Yankees may miss Abreu’s steady presence in the No. 3 spot in the
: lineup. Whoever wins the center field job, the Yankees will not ask much —
:  field the position well and get on base.
外野
這個部份會是洋基再接下來兩年中變動最大的位置.

而現在則是由Damon（LF）,Nady（RF）,Melky和Gardner（CF）來負責,Damon和Nady在這個

球季都是他們的合約年,Austin Jackson則是我們未來的CF.

Damon在去年球季展現出他還是足夠的火力,但是他已經不太能夠再繼續守CF了.

Nady雖然在球季的後段冷卻了下來,但08球季還是他的生涯年,這給了洋基希望,今年他30歲

正是一個選手正要邁入巔峰的時候,他今年將取代Abreu.

而不管是那兩位哪個人守CF,我們都不會要求太多,只好能守好CF和能上壘就好了.

: Catching
: The Yankees made Jorge Posada the highest-paid catcher in baseball before
: last season, but he hurt his shoulder in spring training, aggravated the
: injury on Opening Day and never felt right. Opposing base runners stole on
: him at will, and the muscle tear robbed Posada of his power at the plate. He
: finally had surgery in July, and with his 38th birthday approaching in
: August, Posada will try to defy the odds and come back as the same player
: with a surgically rebuilt shoulder. He has three more years on his contract,
: so the Yankees need him to perform. His backup, Jose Molina, is a terrific
: defensive player but wears down as a hitter the longer he plays.

: injury in 2007, and his left knee gave out last year, limiting him to 93
: games. When he plays, he’s still very good, with an average near .300 and
: respectable power. But he turns 35 in June, and with the surgically repaired
: knees, he won’t see much time in left field anymore. The Yankees traded for
: Nick Swisher before signing Teixeira, hoping his poor 2008 season for the
: White Sox was an aberration. Swisher can play first base or either corner
: outfield spot, and he has solid power — 20-plus home runs in each of his
: four big league seasons — with a knack for getting on base. Veteran Cody
: Ransom, who filled in at all four infield positions, should be the team’s
: utility man. Molina snuffs the opposition’s running game when Posada needs a
: rest.
DH和板凳
長年在日本的人工草皮球場打球還能全勤的松井秀喜已經是過去式了,在07年他的又膝壞

了,而去年則是左膝爆炸,這讓他只打了93場比賽,但他還是一個很好的打者,有三成打率

和不錯的Power,但是在膝蓋手術後,相信他已經不能在LF這個位置上待的太久了.

洋基在簽下鐵爺前先跟白襪換了Swisher,我們希望他在白襪的08球季只是低潮和太衰,

他可以守1壘以及corner OF（不是CF也可以嗎0.0？）,他有一季可以轟20發以上的Power

以及不錯的OBP.

工具人則有Ransom,二號捕手是摸二哥.

: Beyond the Boxscore
: Fit for kings At the old Yankee Stadium, home and visiting players navigated
: a narrow hallway to share one batting cage, under the stands down the right
: field line. At the new Stadium, both sides have their own cage, with the
: Yankees’ located at the entrance to the dugout. Each player will also have a
: computer monitor at his locker, and the ultramodern clubhouse includes two
: underwater training devices.


: Clean-up for closer Mariano Rivera had a sensational season, but it came with
: a price. In early October, Rivera had surgery to remove a calcification from
: his right shoulder. As surgeries go, it was minor, but given Rivera’s
: importance, his recovery will be paramount for the Yankees.


: Musical chair Once, the Yankees seemed to change managers every season. Now,
: they literally change bench coaches at that rate. Tony Peña moves from the
: first base coaching box to the seat next to Joe Girardi in 2009, making him
: the seventh Yankees bench coach in seven years. The others: Don Zimmer,

: pitched only five college games at Stanford last season because of an elbow
