一袋球後, 有一袋黃蕪菁了(或是叫瑞典蘿蔔)
Jose Veras被換去印地安人隊了, Brian Cashman並沒有說笑臉人給了多少錢, 但至
少是超過Claim Waiver的20,000元啦, 但NJ.com的Marc Carig酸說大概只夠買一袋黃蕪菁
(Rutabaga是蕪菁和蘿蔔間的雜交種根莖菜, 葉子也可食用)。
但問題是還有更慘的, 洋基春訓從白襪要來的捕手Chris Stewart (現在洋基3A),
Cashman只付了一塊錢。

ATLANTA -- The Yankees have traded reliever Jose Veras to the Indians. In
exchange for the command-challenged middle reliever, the Yankees received a
bag of rutabagas. Okay, I made that last part up. The deal was for cash
considerations. But how much cash could Veras actually command? Probably,
just enough for a bag of rutabagas.
After a decent 2008 season, Veras came apart this year. His ERA ballooned to
5.96 in 25 appearances, though he rediscovered what's been his primary
talent, letting his electric arm go to waste because of suspect command.
Veras was DFA'd to make room for Brian Bruney.

Brian Cashman did not say how much the Cleveland Indians paid for reliever
Jose Veras, only that it was over the $20,000 waiver price. In that case, it
was more than Cashman paid the Chicago White Sox this spring for the veteran
catcher Chris Stewart, who is now with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. For
Stewart, Cashman paid $1. “Some people get cute and send 100 pennies,”
Cashman said. “I don’t have time for cute.”
