Source: New York Yankees could turn to Hideki Matsui, minors to fill DH slot
if Johnny Damon balks

INDIANAPOLIS - Brian Cashman left the winter meetings Thursday having filled
two big holes on his 2010 roster, yet there is still work left for him to do
before the Yankees report to Tampa 10 weeks from now.

With Andy Pettitte back for 2010, the pressure to bring in another starter
from outside the organization isn't as strong. And the Bombers added an
All-Star center fielder in Curtis Granderson.

The Yankees do, however, need to address their designated hitter spot.

Johnny Damon remains the club's top choice to fill the slot, since he could
play in the outfield or be the DH, giving Joe Girardi flexibility -
especially if he wants to rest Granderson against tough lefthanders.

But Damon and his agent, Scott Boras, seem intent on getting a three- or
four-year deal, something the Yankees are not interested in. Cashman and
Boras will continue to negotiate, but if Damon is unwilling to take a
two-year contract in the next two weeks or so, a source said the Yankees
would likely turn their attention to Hideki Matsui, who is willing to accept
a one-year deal to return to the Bronx. The Yankees could also pursue either
Mark DeRosa or Mike Cameron if they don't bring back Damon, the source said.

Cashman speculated that Scranton first baseman Juan Miranda could fill a
part-time DH role next season, although it sounded an awful lot like the GM's
words four years ago when he insisted that Bubba Crosby would be the team's
center fielder. He then went on to sign Damon to a four-year, $52 million
pact.

"We have Jorge Posada, Mark Teixeira, A-Rod; guys who can swing over (to DH)
on their days of rest," Cashman said. "We have people we can play in that
position internally right now. I'm not trying to oversell anybody, but Juan
Miranda will do a nice job as a DH if that's what we have to do. Is that the
right way to go? I think the market will dictate that."

That's Cashman's way of telling Damon and Boras that he won't be forced into
anything this winter. With roughly $180 million already committed for 2010,
Cashman is looking to to keep the payroll below $200 million, but he says
he's open to how that money gets spent.

"If I see an attractive starter that makes sense within our criteria or an
attractive position player, I'll gravitate to it," Cashman said. "I've got
'X' amount of dollars to spend. I'm open to an array of choices right now."

Cashman remains engaged in trade discussions with several teams, including
the Blue Jays, who continue to shop Roy Halladay. The Angels and Phillies are
believed to be the two front-runners, and while Cashman admits to being
cautious about trading young players such as Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes
and Jesus Montero, he said nobody is untouchable.

"I'm hesitant to move certain young players because of what they can do for
us in the here and now or in the future and the salary off-set they provide,"
he said. "At the same time, for the right player, I'll move anybody."

With Rich Harden and Randy Wolf no longer on the market, the available
starting pitching is now limited to John Lackey, Ben Sheets, Jason Marquis,
Justin Duchscherer, Joel Pineiro and Jon Garland. The Yankees are preparing
Chamberlain and Hughes as starters, although one could be moved to the
bullpen if Cashman brought in another starter via free agency or trade.

"I'm definitely not in a position right now where I feel like I'm ready to do
anything," Cashman said. "The next step isn't ready to happen now. There
shouldn't be another shoe to drop immediately."

我想現在應該不太可能去追逐Bay或Holliday了

擺明了就是松井1yr/7M 大門2yr/20M不簽拉倒

先搶先贏，動作慢的小心被抽單

即使讓牛奶弟移防左外野，再找其他DH，也是選項之一

私心希望松井大門兩個都簽回來，牛奶腿弟替補，這樣打線就爽翻了
(其實Payroll應該還是降的)


先發部分，花了近12M給老派，應該沒必要再找雷姬或鳥王，幫忙抬抬價就夠了

看能不能在自由市場花小錢找來稱職的2號或3號先發，或是皺掉的ACE

如果能用2M左右把老王找回來也不錯(要看王的行情囉)
