(PR) (Trenton, NJ) – The Trenton Thunder announced today that RHP Hector
Noesi has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the
week ending June 6th.
The 6’2”, 175 lb. hurler made a pair of starts for the Thunder last
week and posted a record of 2-0 with 14 strikeouts and a 1.38 ERA. Noesi,
who is a native of Esperanza, Dominican Republic, made his first start of
the week at home on Tuesday night against Portland and did not allow an
earned run in six innings of work in Trenton’s 6-2 victory. He struck
out four batters and walked two while allowing just three hits to earn
his first career Double-A win. The 23-year old was equally impressive
during his second appearance of the week on Sunday afternoon against
Richmond, giving up two runs on six hits over seven innings to earn
the win at Waterfront Park. He struck out 10 batters and walked one
while lowering his ERA to 3.32 with Trenton this season. Noesi’s
two wins last week tied for first among all Eastern League pitchers
and his 14 strikeouts ranked second. Hector, who started eight games
with Class-A Tampa this season and had a record of 5-2 with 53 strikeouts
and a 2.72 ERA, was signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free
agent on December 3, 2004.
This is the second consecutive week that a Thunder player has earned a
weekly honor, following IF Brandon Laird being named EL Player of the
Week for the week ending May 30th. Laird was also named the EL Player
of the Month for May.
Joining Noesi in the weekly EL honors is Shawn Bowman, third baseman for
the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The 25-year old hit .393 (11-for-28) with
two doubles, four home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored, three walks and
a .893 slugging percentage in seven games.
