A big story broke out yesterday afternoon. Supposedly, according to Colin
Cowherd of ESPN radio, it came out that A.J. Burnett had gone through a messy
divorce which the radio announcer blamed his poor performance on.
It sounded great. Finally we had an explanation for why a once formidable
pitcher turned sour and it might have even explained the black eye he showed
up with during the season.
Unfortunately it wasn’t true.
“Colin Cowherd has no idea what he’s talking about,” said Burnett’s agent
Darek Braunecker. “A.J. Burnett is not in the process nor was he ever in the
process of getting a divorce. It’s unequivocally false, and it’s really
irresponsible of Colin Cowherd to report that. We’ve taken issue with that.”
“A.J. is ticked. He is not going through a divorce, and if he was, it would
not be anyone’s business,” Braunecker added. “They (Burnett and wife
Karen) are happily married.”
A.J. is married to wife Karen Burnett live in Maryland during the offseason
and the couple has two sons, Ashton and A.J. Junior.
I’ve never been a big fan of Cowherd. Some people like him and that is
alright with me, but when you are listening to his show, if you hear
something from him that you haven’t heard anywhere else you should probably
take it with a grain of salt. After all, Cliff Lee was supposedly not even
trying while he was with Texas because he was waiting to become a Yankee.
I just wanted to put this out there so that BBD readers knew what was going
on and didn’t buy into any false rumors.
