As you're probably well aware, top prospect Jesus Montero had a little bit of
an incident behind the plate. As much as we can find levity in this, I'm sure
it was extremely painful, but the early indication is that Montero will only
need to miss a game or two. (Jose Gil got the start at catcher today for
Scranton).
Do you remember the way Jorge Vazquez was crushing the ball in Spring Training?
Well, he has eight home runs in his first seventeen games, good for a .710 SLG
and a 1.071 OPS. How long can we ignore this guy?
Here's something that I don't think made the normal news rounds: In his last
start for Scranton, Adam Warren threw 8 shutout innings, allowing only 5 hits
and 1 walk. His ERA for the season sits at 2.89, and he seems to be close to
the head of the pack as far as "major league ready."
Brandon Laird is really struggling. Through his first sixteen games
(admittedly, small sample size), Laird has posted an anemic .167/.190/.267. As
someone who has rocketed through the system the past few years to become one of
our most exciting hitting prospects, we can only hope that he finds a way to
turn things around in the higher levels.
Back from his short stint on the disabled list with a blister, Manny Banuelos
threw 4 more shutout innings on 4/19, and will get the ball tonight against
Richmond. I will update this post with the results of his start tonight.
The subject of last weeks Minor League Mondays, Graham Stoneburner, tossed
another solid outing on 4/21, giving up 1 run in 5 innings on only two hits and
two walks. Stoneburner is yet to give up more than one run in any of his three
starts.
There's plenty to be excited about in the Yankees system, as many of the top
prospects are off to hot starts. Was there anything that I missed or anyone
