[洋基] Heyman: Yankees bid only $15M on Yu Darvish

In the wake of the Yu Darvish sweepstakes, there were plenty of reports that
the Yankees were never serious bidders. Today, Jon Heyman reported that their
final bid was $15 million, nowhere near the Rangers bid of $51.7 million.

Granted, $15 million plus a multi-year contract would have been a sizable
financial commitment from the Yankees, but in this posting process, the
Yankees were dipping into the change jar, not breaking the bank.

Not especially surprising, really. I remember talking to a Yankees official
not long after the bidding was over, and he was basically shaking his head at
the idea of throwing so much money at an unknown pitcher. Not worth the risk,
that seemed to be his assessment.

The Yankees are preaching financial responsibility, and they’re backing it
up with their approach to the offseason.
