Outfielder Jose Guillen was scheduled to play right field and
bat third against the Marlins on Friday night, but he was a
last-minute scratch after straining his left oblique muscle
during batting practice. He is listed as day-to-day and is not
expected to play in the Marlins series.
After swinging at the first pitch, Guillen felt a muscle pull
in his rib cage. He then took five more swings and went into
the trainer's room.

Nationals right-hander Ryan Drese left Friday's game against
against the Marlins because of soreness in his right elbow
and was immediately placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Drese was examined by Dr. Bruce Thomas and it was revealed
that he has soreness in his ulnar collateral ligament. Drese
will have an MRI on Saturday and will be re-examined by Dr.
Lewis Yocum in Southern California.
After putting Drese on the DL, the Nationals purchased the
contract of relief pitcher Saul Rivera from Triple-A New Orleans.
