VIERA, FLORIDA (TICKER) —Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman
avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the
club on Friday.
The 24-year-old is the Nationals’ all-time leader in almost every offensive
category, including home runs (58), RBI (258), runs (240) and hits (494).
Zimmerman has played in a club-record 445 games during his four seasons with
the Nationals, who relocated from Montreal prior to the 2005 season.
Selected by Washington in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2005 draft,
Zimmerman batted .283 with 14 home runs and 51 RBI in 106 games last season.
