No such thing as ‘Zulican’ virus, says DoH

The message circulating through text says, "Alert everybody. Very dangerous vir
us, Zulican virus is spreading through seafood so pls avoid eating seafoods & p
lease pass this msg to all your friends."
The message is being spread not only in the country but also in other Asian cou
ntries, particularly those that have been ravaged by the tsunami spawned by the
magnitude 9 earthquake off Sumatra island in Indonesia, sources said.
Authorities in neighboring Asian countries Singapore and Malaysia have also iss
ued statements declaring the message to be a hoax.
The DoH said that there is no cause for alarm over the alleged virus.
The Health department added that the seafood-borne virus does not exist and ass
ured the public that eating seafood in the country is safe.
