Although Ajax are favorites as they kick off their Champions League
campaign at Grazer AK tonight, trainer Ronald Koeman insists that
the pre-season friendly matches are o substitute for competition
action and that they must mpt take this match to lightly, especially
after Grazer won their first qualifying round - against KF Tirana -
as well as starting their Bundesliga campaign with three successive
victories.
Koeman: "Our season really starts on Tuesday. Grazer have already
played Champions League games so I can't say that we are 100% ready
for them. Not all of my players were fully fit during the preps and
preparations and friendlies are a different cup of tea for a game in
which it will be decided who goes through to the Champions League group
stage."
Koeman added "The players are feeling good and hopefully we will see
that in the two games ahead. I have confidence in the end result.
Grazer plays at a slower pace than we are used to. If we go in at that
tempo, we will get a tough time. But if we dictate the pace and play
fresh football they will have a hard time."
