27-year-old Wilfred Bouma has put pen to paper on a three-year contract at
Aston Villa The defender says he is delighted to have made a move to the
competitive English Premier league.
Confidence
"Aston Villa are a big club and I am looking forward to playing for them in the
Premier League", announces Bouma on the official website of the club from
Birmingham. "I am going to give my all to help the club move to the top of the
table. I had a great talk with manager David O’Leary. He made it clear that
he believes in me. That gives me confidence and that's important for me. I had
a good feeling about Villa, a club with a great history. The people I have
spoken to from the club were all very helpful. Their stadium is really great
and I look forward to my first game for the club."
Medical
The formalities of this transfer to England have been completed at a great
pace. Bouma flew to Birmingham on Tuesday night, where he passed a medical.
He then travelled by private jet and joined the Dutch squad that play World Cup
qualifying games against Armenia and Andorra.
With PSV since 1990
Wilfred Bouma joined PSV in 1990, when he was twelve years of age. He came
through all the youth ranks and was handed his first team debut in an official
game in 1994. He had loan spells with MVV and Fortuna Sittard. Bouma has been
a first team regular player ever since 1999. He has made 55 appearances in
European games. He has been capped twenty times and scored two goals for the
Dutch national team.
