Joey Barton has admitted that he 'owes it to Newcastle' to remain at the
club.
There had been speculation earlier on deadline day that a Premier League
rival was interested in signing the midfielder.
However, Barton has now made it clear that it was always his intention to
stay at St James' Park.
The 25-year-old returned to action for Newcastle in their 3-0 defeat to
Arsenal on Sunday after serving a prison sentence.
The Magpies have supported Barton through his troubles and the player is
keen to repay the club.
"I didn't want to comment on speculation but I didn't want to leave
Newcastle because I owe the club and the fans so much because of
everything I have put them through,"
Barton told Sky Sports News.
