Norway striker John Carew was thrown out of the national squad after
clashing with team-mate John Arne Riise in the team bus, coach Nils
Johan Semb said.
Carew, who has been loaned by Valencia to AS Roma for a season, and
Riise were at loggerheads in training at Drammen in the south of the
country before Wednesday's friendly against Portugal in Oslo.
"The reason (for Carew's exclusion) was an unfortunate episode in the
team bus after returning from training on Monday," Semb said in a press
conference.
"John has been excluded from Tuesday training and tomorrow's match and
he himself decided to return to Rome. The incident was sufficiently
serious for this action to be taken as there are consequences for
unacceptable behaviour."
Riise said: "What happened is a pity and should not have taken place.
Both of us went too far verbally. Thing's heated up and continued in
the bus. But it's all sorted out now. We have apologized to each other
and are friends again."
No reason for the clash was immediately revealed.
